Visiting the Cave Paintings

san ignacio cave paintingsCAVE PAINTINGS A trip to see cave and rock paintings is one of the main reasons visitors come to San Ignacio. In the local mountain ranges, pre-historic artists painted walls and cave ceilings with depictions of birds, fish, and other animals, including humans male and female. Arranging permits and guides is easily done after arriving in San Ignacio.

ARRANGING THE VISIT Control of the cave paintings falls under the guidance of Mexico's National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH). All visitors to the cave paintings must purchase a special permit and must be accompanied by a registered guide.
The necessary permits and guides can all be arranged in San Ignacio.
